Alignment with CDC & State Guidance

VRE is considered an essential service in the state of Virginia, and a part of a Critical Infrastructure Industry as defined by the Department of Homeland Security. As such, we entered into the COVID-19 pandemic with two primary objectives: 1.) Keep service running, and 2.) Meet or exceed all standards to keep passengers and crews safe.

Under our Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) -- implemented in response to the state of emergency issued on March 12, 2020 -- VRE operations are frequently evaluated, shifted and prioritized to mitigate risks and ensure continuous performance of our essential functions. We will continue to enhance our COOP as the situation evolves, but we will always remain vigilant in following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Virginia Department of Health, and the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.

The CDC recently released a criteria tool to assist public transportation administrators in making reopening decisions. We invite you to see our how our new procedures allow us to respond to each line of criteria as well as learn more about our commitment to running our commuter train service as safely as possible.

See how our processes align with CDC guidelines.

Pulling the Public into Transportation Planning: A Top FAMPO Goal
Public Involvement in FAMPO's Planning
