Public Involvement in FAMPO's Planning

Riders may be pleasantly surprised to learn that they have an important role to play in developing our future transportation system and that being part of the process is very easy. The elected and appointed officials who ultimately decide which transportation projects will move forward can only make sound decisions after consulting with transportation professionals, planners, and hearing from members of the public. When it comes to planning future transportation projects, everyone has a part to play.

The Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) is responsible for planning all types of transportation projects for the City of Fredericksburg, Stafford County and Spotsylvania County. FAMPO carries out its responsibility by creating a forum where members of the public, elected and appointed officials, transit agencies, and transportation professionals come together to discuss transportation concerns, take action to fund transportation projects, and continuously cooperate to improve the region’s transportation system.

Riders, walkers, cyclists, and drivers have an opportunity right now to easily influence the future of their transportation system. FAMPO is currently developing the Fredericksburg region’s new long-range transportation plan, a document that plans transportation projects for the next 30 years and FAMPO needs the public’s help in developing long-term transportation goals. The public is encouraged to take an online survey that will allow them to help develop the region’s long-term transportation goals in just 5 to 10 minutes. It is especially important for VRE riders, and other transit users to help establish transportation goals because they have experience with a wide range of transportation options.

Riders and all those who are concerned with the future of transportation in the Fredericksburg area can take the survey now and through January 1, 2021 at https://surveyhero.com/c/transportation-goals
