VRE has started its System Plan 2050 update process!
VRE’s current System Plan was completed in 2014. That plan led to a program of improvements that includes new tracks and stations, new trains, and improved service.
The world today is different than in 2014. Many new and changing factors influence how we move around the region. Remote working, evolving regional demographics, and changing housing patterns all play a role. The Commonwealth of Virginia has also made a commitment to improve rail service through the Transforming Rail in Virginia Initiative.
As travel needs change, and rail evolves, we want VRE to continue to be part of your daily life, with service that meets your needs through 2050 and beyond.
On the System Plan Update website, you can:

- Offer your comments and insights for the future of VRE
We currently expect the VRE Operations Board to adopt the new plan by the end of 2023, and we will be looking for your feedback as we continue to develop the plan throughout this year. We hope to hear from you!
